In recent years there has been a significant increase in the amount of aluminium separately collected for recycling, thanks to the efforts of millions of citizens to separate their wastes as well as the combined action of CIAL, the public authorities and the environment and sanitation industry.
Aluminium packaging, which may be recognised by the ALU mark, is separately collected and briefly treated before being sent to the foundry for the recycling process to create new objects and products for everyday use.
In Italy, Aluminium is rarely collected alone, but normally in combination with other materials such as plastic and/or glass.
These materials may be collected in big containers on the street, or through collection facilities in apartment buildings or door-to-door pick-up.
If you’re not sure how to recycle aluminium in your town, contact your local environment office.
