Conai and the National Consotia for the recycle of the packaging present Recycling Tube, an interactive video installation that shows the route taken by packaging waste, including that generated at Expo Milano 2015, from separate collection bins to the recycling plants of six consortia, to be completely transformed, or re-produced, into new products.
The installation, the profile of which recreates a city skyline, was designed by the agency Piano B and the architectural firm Principioattivo, and is located on the Expo Milano premises, near the Chinese and Colombian pavilions.
It consists of a 12m interactive tunnel split into six sections, each lined with different packaging materials. Inside, visitors may consult the 10 commandments of separate waste collection – 10 rules to separate, and therefore recycle, packaging waste at best – and the up-to-date findings of the environmental meter that keeps tabs on the recycling of waste at Milano Expo 2015.
Here are a few photos:
The installation shows how the recycling of packaging waste works in Italy: this, and more generally the entire waste management cycle, is an issue that is strongly felt in our country.
According to a survey conducted by Doxa Marketing Advice for Conai with regard to environmental issues, 29% of citizens consider proper waste management the most important challenge and a priority compared to other major issues, such as the transition to renewable energy (14 %) or air (10%) and soil (9%) pollution.
Also according to the survey, 87% of Italians consider domestic waste separation a natural part of their daily routine, on a par with other energy saving measures such as switching off lights and using energy-efficient light bulbs.
The Recycling Tube will remain open for the entire duration of the Universal Exhibition (until 31 October 2015).
